The digital transformation of the energy sector is a key component in achieving a sustainable future. In this regard, the focus of the Energy Council will be on:
-
Digitalization of energy systems: It will discuss how digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain, can improve the efficiency, reliability and security of energy systems, and also enable the production and distribution of energy from renewable sources..
-
Smart grids and smart cities: The application of smart grids and smart cities will be considered in order to reduce energy consumption, improve efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy sources. Best practices and examples from the region and beyond will be highlighted.
-
Circular economy in the energy sector: The importance of the application of circular economy principles in the energy sector will be highlighted and the latest innovative approaches such as circular business models, the use of renewable energy sources, energy storage, waste treatment technologies and CE procurement will be considered. Special emphasis will be placed on the application of these principles in the Western Balkans and opportunities for the development of the circular economy in the region.
-
Financing low-carbon development: It will discuss how sustainable principles such as ESG principles can encourage investment in low-carbon development, possible implications of the EU Taxonomy, and how the introduction of CBAM and planned emissions trading schemes can impact investment decisions.
The Energy Council will also highlight regulatory and economic challenges in the application of digital and circular solutions in the energy sector, as well as opportunities for the development of new business models and partnerships in the region.
The aim of the Energy Council is to highlight best practices and examples from the region and beyond, as well as to encourage experts, industry and regulatory authorities to cooperate in order to create a low carbon future in the Western Balkans.
